Vet Visit! (Diesel)

Even though we live in the city, we drive about 40 minutes to our vet because we're just in love with Dr. Moffa, Dr. Julie, Dr. Mark and all our girlfriends at the front desk of Honeygo Animal Hospital! When Lola first joined the family in 2006, she would go to a different vet closer to home but one day he said she had a condition called Entropian (a medical condition in which the eyelids fold inward) and suggested surgery to SHAVE back her eyelids! Mommy immediately called Dr. Moffa, who was her Daddy's fraternity brother way "back in the day", for a second opinion. Dr. Moffa figured out it was one stray eyelash and Lola walked away with one quick laser treatment and her eyelids intact! We've gone to him ever since...

So today we went to vet for a number of things, but let's start at the beginning... It's been super hot out lately so Mom had the air blasting for us on the ride (look- her car says 91 degrees!). No matter how cool it is, Lola always pants like a crazy fool in the car. Today she sat in the front seat with the fan blowing right at her, while I opted to lay in the back all stretched out:

When we got to Honeygo, Lola started to hyperventilate almost immediately, as usual, and stuck herself to Mommy's side. Meanwhile, I ran right up to my girlfriends and scoped out the other customers immediately. There was a pug named Chloe, and a cat and another small dog that I really wanted to play with!
I was a brave boy and went back first, getting a pedicure, a Lyme and heartworm test (all clear!) and also a bordetella vaccine (ouch!). I didn't mind at all cause my lady friends love me as much as I love them! They also weighed me and I am a solid 58 pounds!
Then Lola went back and also got a pedi and had her anal glands expressed (ew), as well as a Lyme/heartworm test (all clear!). I will be polite and leave Lola's weight out, since it's rude to ask a lady her age or weight. Then we went to the exam room so Dr. Moffa could check out her ears, which have been bothering her. Look at the love!!!
Lola was really brave too- I would have freaked out seeing this on the counter, but she was too busy practically having a heart attack to notice. She got her distemper, rabies and bordetella vaccines and took it like a champ! She also got some goo for her ears.Don't worry sis, I'll hold your hand: While we waited to check out, I got bored... while Lola continued to pant maniacally (look at that CRAZY tongue!):On the way home it was pretty much the same situation:Now we're home in the AC, pooped from our shots and the big adventure. Thankfully, Lola's tongue has finally found it's way back into her mouth.

I can't wait to go back to the vet to see my friends! Lola sure can...

Near Death Experience (Diesel)

Last week, I had a near death experience. For real. It was really scary and it really scared Mom and Dad... It was 10pm and Lola and I saw some runaway kibble under the couch. Mom pulled it out and we both went after it and we started growling and fussing over it, which caused some to get stuck in my throat. I was seriously choking- I couldn't get it out. Over the next 2 minutes, I threw up twice, Dad tried to put his hand in my throat to sweep it out, and I continued to heave and I couldn't breathe... Mom screamed that my tongue was blue and I got really tired and layed down. I was all of breath and energy and I was giving up. Daddy scooped me up and tossed my limp body on Mommy's lap in the truck and off we drove to the ER Vet. Shortly after we started to drive, I was able to take a deep suck in and hack whatever it was that was stuck back in my body- and then I started PANTING! We were all so relieved and by the time to go to the vet, I was back to normal, just tired.

Mom and Dad got so scared and Mom was so upset with herself for not thinking of giving me the heimlich - she didn't even realize you could do it for dogs! SO, all you pet owners out there... please check out this website on giving your dogs first aid, just in case this ever happens to you! Also, if you have an iPhone, there is even a Pet First Aid app!

(Okay, now that this is all over, I can laugh at this just a little. The first aid site suggests the following for choking dogs: "If you cannot remove the object and the dog is small enough, pick it up by grasping its back legs; turn it upside down and shake vigorously. Slapping its back while shaking may help to dislodge the object."- Can you imagine Dad doing this to me?!)

Cousin Avery! (Lola)

Aunt Amanda's friend Jessica has a bulldog who got to hang out with our cousins Autumn and Avery recently... We LOVE this picture of Avery and the bully hanging out on the bench together. We're SO JEALOUS!

Planting and Panting (Lola and Diesel)

Grandma and Grumps came over yesterday to help Mommy and Daddy with all of the planting and pruning today in the yard. As usual, we supervised! Great job Grandma, we'll be over here if you need us!
It was a really, really toasty day- (not very Springlike if you ask us) so we stayed right next to the water bowl...
Doesn't it look great out here?! (Mom brought the camera out from inside and the lens fogged all up since it was so hot and humid- That's why these pictures are a little blurry):
Of course, we need to inspect all the herbs and flowers...
Daddy dishes out some love:

The Year in Review (Lola)

I just realized that April 19th marked one year since I started this blog with my first post, "Welcome to our Dog House" and we have written over 65 posts since then! We've had such a wonderful year, full of fun and adventures in the sun and snow (and boy did it snow!), some surgeries, visits from family, holidays (remember Halloween, Christmas, Easter, our Birthdays?), and unfortunately, a few fights here and there... But, we're older and wiser, a little calmer (Diesel) and a little grumpier (me). Most of all, we're looking forward to the next wonderful year... Life is good.
